Maya Lane : When You Need Me Review

maya-lane-cdMaya Lane is a London-based singer and songwriter. The 19-year-old has released two singles, “Childish Games” and “Still The Same,” both have been received well by fans and critics. Lane is now releasing her third single titled “When You Need Me,” which is gearing up for her debut EP in September.

“When You Need Me” features Lane’s dreamy vocals with lyrics that tell a story of unconditional love for her younger sister as she gives her younger sibling advice on her journey. Lane co-wrote ‘When You Need Me‘ with another UK talent,  Kaity Rae, marking their third collaboration with the hit-making producer Jonathan Quarmby. Lane says, “‘When You Need Me’ was one of those songs where the lyrics came so naturally, it’s like they are pouring out of you. The song encapsulates the feeling of watching someone you love grow up and the desire to shield and protect them from everything. While it has that personal side to it, the song, as I’ve played it live, it has also evolved into a metaphor for women supporting women, especially within the music industry.” The song is sung beautifully and shows a mature approach to songwriting.

“When You Need Me” is accompanied by a well-done video featuring Lane and her sister. Lane’s angelic voice and sense of style are certainly something to follow and enjoy. Lane is managed by Ferocious Talent and has recently signed a publishing deal with Stellar Songs and a record deal with The Orchard. She is currently writing with the likes of Wayne Hector (Tate Mcrae, Birdy), Jonathan Qaurmby (Tom Walker, James Arthur, Lewis Capaldi), Benjamin Francis Leftwich (Holly Humberstone), Jonny Lattimer (Ellie Goulding, Anne Marie), and Hayley Gene Penner (The Chicks, Lennon Stella). Maya Lane should be on your radar, especially with her upcoming EP.

About The Author
Shannon Smith
A fan of music my entire life. Should that be enough, well it is for me. Who buys music, the fans. Who listens to music, the fans. Like me, there are many like-minded individuals that daily search for meaningful and new music to add to their playlist, their soundtrack of life. A life without music would Bb. Yes, I have seen that saying floating around for years, and truth is, its #truth. So, may I introduce you to Shannon Smith (me). I am the editor. A music junkie that can’t get enough music in my life. A nerd (proudly), with some mad love for technology and design. It is that desire that sparked Sound in Review. Life is busy, the reviews are meant to ultimately introduce and briefly talk about the music. We have a section called SIR Quote: this is my way of saying thank you, to the countless artists making the world a place of expression. Show yours by rating each artists album, just as we have (collectively as writers), to show your support for your favorite artist.
