Halestorm : Back From The Dead Review
Halestorm has released their album Back From The Dead, which is eleven songs produced by Nick Raskulinecz that takes the listener on a journey through navigating mental health, debauchery, survival, redemption, and rediscovery while still maintaining faith in humanity. Already the title track has earned the band their sixth #1 on Rock Radio. Halestorm has grown from a childhood dream of siblings Lzzy and Arejay Hale into one of the most celebrated rock bands of the last two decades as their music has surpassed a billion streams worldwide. Halestorm is Lzzy Hale on guitar and vocals, with drummer Arejay Hale, guitarist Joe Hottinger, and bass player Josh Smith.
“Back From The Dead” opens the album and clarifies that Halestorm has moved to a new level; a new level of intensity, playing, songwriting, emoting through the song, and even Lzzy sounds more passionate. Her vocal buzz is fantastic, and the band is aggressive and focused. The song has clear sections that build and release energy. Hottinger’s guitar solo is incredible. This is an excellent opening selection and will make you want to dig deeper into the album.
“The Steeple” has a catchy riff and a slightly lighter vibe, but the intensity and fullness are still full throttle. Lzzy’s glissandos and upper register grit are absolutely beautiful and emotive. The production is clear, and each part rings clear in the mix and fills the space with power and balance. Hottinger brings the heat with a strong motif styled guitar solo. The vocal harmonies during the break-down will send chills down your spine. The song form builds through duration ending in an impressive single note by Lzzy.
Back From The Dead is hard-hitting from start to finish. Each song has its own vibe and aggression, giving the album an enjoyable and varied flow. Lzzy’s singing is amazing, she is on another level here, and the band has bottled their live energy and released it into this recording with the help of producer Raskulinecz. This is the real deal!
