Sofia Boyden : Prove You Wrong Review
Sofia Boyden was Born in Missoula, Montana, and raised in Gig Harbor, Washington. Boyden developed a deep love for country music. When she graduated High School, she went to Nashville to record her upcoming EP with Grammy nominated producer Jeff Pardo (Ben Rector, Lady Antebellum, Danielle Bradberry). The EP will be released on November 8, 2019 and Boyden has already released two singles from the EP. “Blame It On My Heart,” which was released earlier this year and now, Boyden is releasing the second single “Prove You Wrong.”
“Blame It On My Heart,” as one would expect from the title, is a romance song. Boyden explains, “I wanted to write a song that tells what it really feels like when you’re head over heels a lot quicker than expected. This is a song for those people who go all in, even on the first date, and aren’t afraid to be themselves and feel what they feel.” With a catchy acoustic guitar figure and a pop country beat, Boyden sings the melody in a relaxed country style. Boyden’s voice is focused and rhythmically articulate. The songwriting is well-structured and with Pardo on board, of course the production is excellent.
“Prove You Wrong” finds Boyden writing an empowerment song that is easy on the ears and full of inspiration. Boyden explains, “So many times in my life, I have been put down because people didn’t believe in my dreams with me. And I needed to write a song that said, I’m not going to tell you you’re wrong, I’m going to show you you’re wrong.” Boyden’s vocals shine on this one. Her musical character comes through in her singing and she really sells the message, which makes the song that much more believable. The music is supportive and the band outstanding. Boyden’s glissandos are very emotional. She has a country style in her lyrics, a little bit of a Southern accent, even though she is a west coast girl. The result is still very effective in selling her country appeal.
Sofia Boyden has a country style that is commercially sound. Her voice is right on the mark and “Prove You Wrong,” solidifies this young dreamer as the authentic country maven she so eloquently imagined. The production is top-shelf and with each lyric Boyden confirms she is a solid-diamond in the making.
