Rachel Shaps : Learn My Lesson Review

Rachel-Shaps-sirRachel Shaps is a singer/songwriter based in New York.  The granddaughter of performing icon Eartha Kitt, Shaps grew up traveling to shows, singing, and writing original songs.  “I want people to connect with me and my story on a personal level,” Shaps says. “I love connecting with people through music.” With a series of releases planned for 2019 and a steadily growing following, it seems certain that we will be hearing more from Shaps. Her vocal style is striking, and her tone is rich and full. “Learn My Lesson,” delivers a catchy melody that lands on the commercial side of pop.

“Learn My Lesson” has a smart rhythmic figure that supports the full vocal timbres. Shaps has a fine set of pipes that can be heard through her entire range. The lyrics are meaningful and full of emotion. “I felt that I had hit a point of growth in myself with celebrating,” Shaps says. “I wanted to write a song recognizing and owning the part I played in my own negative experiences instead of always blaming someone else. It felt empowering and freeing.” The production lies between pop and commercial, with a hint of dance floor influence. Shaps is full of talent, from her songwriting to her powerful singing.

“Learn My Lesson” is radiating with the vocal dimensions of Shaps warmth and expressiveness. Her singing is well phrased, original and pristine in diction. Shaps is the total package and we will certainly be wanting to hear more from the vocal powerhouse. Also, Shaps just released a EDM pop version of  “Learn My Lesson” (Viibrnt Remix). Listen HERE.

About The Author
Shannon Smith
A fan of music my entire life. Should that be enough, well it is for me. Who buys music, the fans. Who listens to music, the fans. Like me, there are many like-minded individuals that daily search for meaningful and new music to add to their playlist, their soundtrack of life. A life without music would Bb. Yes, I have seen that saying floating around for years, and truth is, its #truth. So, may I introduce you to Shannon Smith (me). I am the editor. A music junkie that can’t get enough music in my life. A nerd (proudly), with some mad love for technology and design. It is that desire that sparked Sound in Review. Life is busy, the reviews are meant to ultimately introduce and briefly talk about the music. We have a section called SIR Quote: this is my way of saying thank you, to the countless artists making the world a place of expression. Show yours by rating each artists album, just as we have (collectively as writers), to show your support for your favorite artist.
