Sara Diamond : SaraX Review

sara-diamond-cdSara Diamond is a vocalist with an incredibly unique sound with her latest project, SaraX. With eight tracks that showcase her enticing gift as a powerful vocalist that blends her strengths of clever songwriting and soulful embellishments. The indie-pop star has gained over 22 million streams worldwide on her own music and another 18 million on collaborations with Kaskade, Adventure Club, NASAYA, Tyler Shaw, and several others. Diamond is Canadian-born, living in LA, and is working on developing an album, executive produced by Dominique Sanders in collaboration with Brian Kennedy and Stixx Taylor. The album is slated for Fall 2022. In the meantime, Sara will be releasing her final EP leading into the album, SaraX.

“Not All Fun Is Forever” is a relaxed ballad that finds Diamond being supported by cinematic strings, light drums, and tasteful guitar. Her confident vocal delivery and her warm tone keep you enthralled as the lyrics sing of someone missing their lover. Diamond co-produced the track with DJ Coco and Gage Brown. The vocal harmonies add richness to phrases. In addition, Diamond’s soulful embellishments at the end of phrases are a treat to hear.

Diamond also deals with other challenges of relationships with her post-breakup anthem, “Happy with Me.” Here the Canadian-born, Los Angeles-based singer showcases her sultry singing. Again, Diamond puts emphasis on various phrases with well-placed vocal harmonies. The sparse instrumentation is pleasant for the first section. However, when the hi-hat enters, it does so with a generic pattern and additional drumbeat. Diamond’s vocal counterpoint in the background for the song’s second half is delightful.

Diamond has fantastic vocal chops. However, I would love to hear her in a more natural setting without all the electronic drums, hi-hats, and electro-pop coverings. A real band would suit her style, add dynamics and match the richness of her delivery and vocal colorings. Here’s to hoping that is the direction for her album in the Fall of 2022; she is undoubtedly one to watch.

About The Author
Shannon Smith
A fan of music my entire life. Should that be enough, well it is for me. Who buys music, the fans. Who listens to music, the fans. Like me, there are many like-minded individuals that daily search for meaningful and new music to add to their playlist, their soundtrack of life. A life without music would Bb. Yes, I have seen that saying floating around for years, and truth is, its #truth. So, may I introduce you to Shannon Smith (me). I am the editor. A music junkie that can’t get enough music in my life. A nerd (proudly), with some mad love for technology and design. It is that desire that sparked Sound in Review. Life is busy, the reviews are meant to ultimately introduce and briefly talk about the music. We have a section called SIR Quote: this is my way of saying thank you, to the countless artists making the world a place of expression. Show yours by rating each artists album, just as we have (collectively as writers), to show your support for your favorite artist.
