Alyson Murray : Come To Me Review
Australian vocalist Alyson Murray is quickly establishing herself as an up and coming soul singer. Her seductive vocal styling is only matched by her acumen to create hook laden tunes that are memorable. Murray is a Graduate from the Victorian College of the Arts, 2015 with studies in jazz and improvisation. Throughout 2019, Murray started posting a series of A Capella videos on instagram, with hashtag #AMSESSIONS. This series started in New York and has captured the rawness of Murray’s songwriting. The culmination of this series as resulted in the latest single by Murray titled, “Come to Me” and features some of New York’s finest musicians, pianist Kelly Green, guitarist Alicyn Yaffee, bassist Michelle Osbourne and drummer Lucianna Padmore.
Murray has a warmth to her voice that is enlivened by the soulfulness of her diction and the rhythm in which she delivers each note. Her ability to connect with the audience through meaningful lyrics that offer a hook laden chorus is cornerstone to her successful writing style. Each note drips like honey on “Come To Me,” Murray illuminates the new-soul genre with inspiration from pop and gospel idioms.
“Come to Me” comes from a place of personal experiences. After relocating to New York, to launch her career Murray was met with the challenges of a burgeoning career. Patiently waiting for things to work out and trying to trust it’ll come, “Come to Me” is a celebration of that feeling. The tune offers feel-good rhythms and a gospel inspired “sing-along” outro. We were first introduced by Murray through her release Breathe. Murray continues to push forward in her artistry and with each new release the unfolding of greatness has begun.
