Kailee Morgue : Knew You Review, soulful bedroom-pop rock

kailee-morgue-cdKailee Morgue is a bedroom-pop singer and songwriter based in Phoenix, Arizona, that has been catching the attention of fans. With 60 million streams and widespread acclaim by everyone from The New York Times to Highsnobiety, the 21-year-old pop wunderkind shows no signs of slowing down.  Morgue returns with a new single titled “Knew You” via Republic Records. The single is produced by Heavy, and features Morgue in her first proper love song, but with a twist. Morgue explains, “I’ve finally allowed myself to start writing love songs and about relationships. I never indulged in this style before. I’d just gotten into a relationship where I was constantly writing about love and that dynamic. I was super playful but honest. I’m really open.”

“Knew You” sets the stage for Morgue’s dream vocals with a palm-muted guitar playing a steady rhythm. Morgue’s vocals enter as she sings in a little blue pastel timber. The chorus expands with the slap of the snare as the hi-hat chimes sixteenth notes. The different sections of the song form are accented by different feels and instrumentations. Morgue’s vocal style is playful, flirty, and of course, dreamy.

Morgue brings a new side to her musical personality with “Knew You.” The lyrics are filled with compassion and hope, reconciling the past to pave a road to happiness and second chances. The way Morgues sings the melody brings life and heart to the lyrics, each song section has a distinct voice and personality. The result is a beautiful, soulful bedroom-pop song from the first note.

About The Author
Shannon Smith
A fan of music my entire life. Should that be enough, well it is for me. Who buys music, the fans. Who listens to music, the fans. Like me, there are many like-minded individuals that daily search for meaningful and new music to add to their playlist, their soundtrack of life. A life without music would Bb. Yes, I have seen that saying floating around for years, and truth is, its #truth. So, may I introduce you to Shannon Smith (me). I am the editor. A music junkie that can’t get enough music in my life. A nerd (proudly), with some mad love for technology and design. It is that desire that sparked Sound in Review. Life is busy, the reviews are meant to ultimately introduce and briefly talk about the music. We have a section called SIR Quote: this is my way of saying thank you, to the countless artists making the world a place of expression. Show yours by rating each artists album, just as we have (collectively as writers), to show your support for your favorite artist.
