Gia Woods One Big Party Review

gia-woods-cd

With a sound that is cutting and lyrics that are stimulating, Gia Woods is an artist that will provoke; she likes to break the rules. The 22-year-old Persian songstress has a striking and exotic presence, her undeniable sex appeal translates beyond music and into each performance and visual. Woods is more than a rock-hard body and pretty face though; her songwriting is deep and her melodies are beautiful creations that have staying power. Enamoring the LGBTQ community out of the gate during 2015 with “Only A Girl” (10 million views and counting), performing at LA Pride, and later collaborating with Matoma on the 2017 hit “Heart Won’t Forget.” Woods is a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist that is pushing the envelope. Now, the exotic queer pop star is releasing her single, “One Big Party.”

“One Big Party” is a hypnotic breakup anthem that has all the best elements of a summer single hit. With a relaxed beat and interesting rhythms, Woods sensual voice takes us on a corporeal journey. The usual elements of electro-pop are all present, but Woods does expand the sounds in a way that is musical and clearly marks her as a unique listen. The usual bland and sporadic hi-hat pattern that can usually be heard in hundreds of electro-pop selections is expanded into something musical, THANK YOU! Woods has a voice that is clear and agile as she delivers the melody with confidence and musicality. Woods presents a song that is balanced in form and density of sounds. The beat is strong, and the instrumentation enters without getting in the way of Woods singing. The track encapsulates a personal message for the songstress who admits, “I feel like everyone tries to distract themselves from problems and conflicts in relationships. You’ll ignore signs of toxicity for the sake of keeping up appearances for your friends and a personal level of comfort, but you’re really sacrificing your own happiness. I’ve been in this situation, and in the end, I realized that I needed to ignore those distractions and be alone to focus on myself.”

Woods is shaking things up with her elastic sound and creative ideas. “One Big Party,” offers a wonderful breath of freshness in the electro-pop genre.  Woods is leading the pack with her iridescent sound.

About The Author
Shannon Smith
A fan of music my entire life. Should that be enough, well it is for me. Who buys music, the fans. Who listens to music, the fans. Like me, there are many like-minded individuals that daily search for meaningful and new music to add to their playlist, their soundtrack of life. A life without music would Bb. Yes, I have seen that saying floating around for years, and truth is, its #truth. So, may I introduce you to Shannon Smith (me). I am the editor. A music junkie that can’t get enough music in my life. A nerd (proudly), with some mad love for technology and design. It is that desire that sparked Sound in Review. Life is busy, the reviews are meant to ultimately introduce and briefly talk about the music. We have a section called SIR Quote: this is my way of saying thank you, to the countless artists making the world a place of expression. Show yours by rating each artists album, just as we have (collectively as writers), to show your support for your favorite artist.
