James Maslow: Love U Sober Review
James Maslow is a recording artist, songwriter, and actor. Maslow is releasing a new single called “Love U Sober” as well as a James Bond-esque new music video. “Love U Sober” is the first of many singles from the sexy crooner. The video is a montage of fire, helicopters and a tempting love interest, showcasing Maslow in top leading-man form. Directed by Michael B. Chait, the collaboration between the pair started with the filming of the WWII action flick Wolf Hound, which Chait also directed and will star Maslow as a fighter pilot (release date TBA). “This is a big week for me. Dropping my first big music video as a solo artist, celebrating the premiere of a new series on a major network – all while on set filming a new movie here in Philadelphia,” shares Maslow. “I never could decide which I prefer more, the camera or the microphone, and I hope to never have to choose. Grateful to all the fans who continue to support all my worlds. Expect a lot more of it all.”
“Love U Sober” touches on relationships having navigating love and lust. The beginning of the song has a montage of sound samples that segue into a pop beat and Maslow singing the melody. His phrasing and vocal control is very much in the pop idiom, as is his sound and timbre. The backing instruments are full and keep things moving. The style of the song has elements of EDM, pop and electro pop. Maslow has been earning notoriety with his original music and is a proud past recipient of the prestigious Macy’s iHeartRadio Rising Star Award. The coveted title earned him the opportunity to open the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas as well as KIIS FM’s Jingle Ball in Los Angeles and Z100’s iHeartRadio Jingle Ball in New York City.
Popping with sensuality and EDM-pop sensibilities, “Love U Sober” continues to show Maslow’s creative musical side is still very much alive and well. Just like J. Lo, the acting and music career can and should be front and center.
