Kicking Sunrise : Underneath Review

Kicking Sunrise is a band of four musicians/songwriters from Sewell, NJ. The band found their sound and direction after a successful posting on YouTube in January 2013. Soon after, the band had an extensive fan base in the South Jersey area. As the four kept focused on their writing and performing, they were recognized and signed with an independent record label (Right Coast Music). Kicking Sunrise went to Southern California to record their debut album titled, Here’s to the Sunrise.  The band has since release multiple singles and are now presenting their latest, “Underneath.”

“Underneath” has all the elements of a hit pop tune, a catchy melody, a beat that make you wanna move, full vocal harmonies and lush full production of well-played instruments.  Clean guitar creates a cross currant against the funky bass line supported by a thumping dance beat from the drum set. The lead vocals are clear and energetic, and the vocal harmonies are in tune and resonate. The song keeps the energy moving forward and never loses its feel-good vibe. The quartet has a vibe, both in songwriting and in singing. The guitar riffs at the end of the track are a nice touch, wish more pop tunes would bring in that sound!

All the markings of super-pop, with catchy beat, danceable rhythms that stick to the bone. Hook laden chorus adorn the track as Kicking Sunrise harmonize with a zestful energy that is infectious.  “Underneath,” is a stone cold hit in the making.
