The Baker Brothers : Sunrise Review

by Shannon Smith

The-Baker-Brother-Sound-In-Review-cdWith their latest single, “Sunrise,” The Baker Brothers have delivered a track that’s destined for the dance floor. Featuring the soulful stylings of Hannah Williams, though not as the lead vocalist, the song boasts an undeniable groove, polished musicianship, and infectious energy that will keep listeners moving well past the first listen.

From the moment “Sunrise” kicks off with its sharp, hip band hits, Chris Pedleys’ slap-and-pop bass line grabs the listener and locks them into a tight, funk-laden rhythm. Ted Carrasco’s drums anchor the track, laying down a beat that pushes the energy forward, inviting listeners to lose themselves in the groove. The male vocalists take center stage, providing a wonderfully soulful performance that feels both powerful and emotive, bringing the essence of funk and soul into every line.

Geoff Lai’s guitar work shines throughout, adding a rhythmic, funky texture that complements the tight ensemble. He knows when to lay back and when to push forward, crafting a soundscape that grooves effortlessly. Hannah Williams delivers soulful and bluesy fills that act as a perfect counterpoint to the band’s male. Her harmonies and soulful voice elevate the song’s emotional depth, and, in the final chorus, she showcases her impressive range, hitting falsetto notes with ease and power.

Paul Young’s saxophone solo is one of the track’s highlights, injecting a polished and vibrant energy that cuts through the band’s already dynamic sound. Not to be outdone, Scott Baylis adds a layer of richness on keyboards, with a synth solo that matches the vibe perfectly, adding another element to this groove-laden track.

Ultimately, “Sunrise” is a song that refuses to let you sit still. It’s the type of track that hits you with a relentless, funky energy from the first note, and doesn’t let go until the final falsetto wail. The Baker Brothers have crafted a dance anthem that is a testament to their musical chemistry and a declaration that their groove is unstoppable.

If “Sunrise” is any indication of what’s to come from their next album, The Next Last Party, then we’re all in for a serious treat. The anticipation for the release of this album is palpable. Get ready to dance your way into the morning hours—this track was made to move you.

About The Author
Shannon Smith
A fan of music my entire life. Should that be enough, well it is for me. Who buys music, the fans. Who listens to music, the fans. Like me, there are many like-minded individuals that daily search for meaningful and new music to add to their playlist, their soundtrack of life. A life without music would Bb. Yes, I have seen that saying floating around for years, and truth is, its #truth. So, may I introduce you to Shannon Smith (me). I am the editor. A music junkie that can’t get enough music in my life. A nerd (proudly), with some mad love for technology and design. It is that desire that sparked Sound in Review. Life is busy, the reviews are meant to ultimately introduce and briefly talk about the music. We have a section called SIR Quote: this is my way of saying thank you, to the countless artists making the world a place of expression. Show yours by rating each artists album, just as we have (collectively as writers), to show your support for your favorite artist.
