WIG WAM : Never Say Die Review

wig-wam-cdWIG WAM, the heavy metal band from Norway, have reunited and are back to abusing the airwaves with a new album, fittingly titled Never Say Die. The twelve new tracks have all the aspects that built their monster reputation of driving energy, unstoppable riffs, and ever power melodies. The songwriting is fresh sounding with plenty of loud guitars. The catchy hooks and melodic hard rock anthems that Wig Wam is known for are present throughout for a full-blown hard-rocking excursion. WIG WAM is Glam (Ă…ge Sten Nilsen), vocals; Teeny (Trond Holter), guitars; Flash (Bernt Jansen), bass; and Sporty (Ă˜ystein Andersen), drums.

The title track was also the first single from the album and kicks things into high gear. Glam’s vocals soar over the driving pulse of the band and flanged guitars. The riffs are catchy, and the crunchy guitars and driving bass and drums fill the space with balls to the wall metal. The chorus is big, and the melody is supported with vocal harmonies. The songwriting is exciting but not overly complex to satisfy the need for exciting songs that are still memorable. It is easy to get caught up in the energy and singalong from start to finish.

“Kilimanjaro” is the stand-out track on the record, with a fantastic melody and complementing guitar work with a hard-driving pulse provided by the drums and bass. The moving energy of the different sections is an invaluable transition for the song’s appeal. The guitar harmony and solo section is melodic and adds power before breaking into a refrain, which is catchy and sure to stay with you. The song flows between interesting spacey sections and hard rock anthem choruses. Both acoustic and electric guitars add to the textures, and Glam’s vocals are aggressive and lead the song with power.

Never Say Die is a rock-solid effort by Wig Wam, their most memorable release to date, in my opinion. The album stands out for its driving energy, memorable melodies, and extraordinary songwriting. There is no doubt that the album will remain a staple in the ever-expanding discography of Wig Wam and grab the attention of metal fans around the world.
