Karen Hardy : Nobody Review
Karen Hardy is a pop/soul artist that was born and raised in New Jersey, Hardy moved to Nashville, Tennessee in the fall of 2017. Hardy has influences from Ariana Grande, Sza, and Tori Kelly. Hardy began playing the guitar and songwriting at the age of 15. Knowing that music was her life passion Hardy, left public high school at 16 to allow more time for her craft and earned her high school diploma online. Hardy’s debut EP, Clouds, was released in June of 2017. In 2018, she released a single titled “Never Do.” Now in 2019, Hardy is releasing her latest single, “Nobody.”
“Nobody” has many vocal textures and harmonies that are all filled with Hardy’s rich vocals. The music is supportive, even though the drums could be developed and could be warmer in the mix. The track displays Hardy’s singing skills in a positive light, and that is the focus of both this review and the track. Hardy’s tone, rhythm and phrasing are all very enjoyable. Her lyrics are intriguing and the melody is certainly memorable. Hardy says this about the inspiration of the “Nobody,” “I got the idea for ‘Nobody’ after hanging with a group of people one night and once I had left, I realized that no one had asked me anything about myself the entire night. I came to the conclusion that I just wasn’t interesting or special enough to have anyone ask me any questions. This sounds super angsty and over dramatic haha but in the moment it was truly what I believed. The more I thought about it though, the more I realized that while everyone I meet might not think I’m very special, the people who really know me think I am. Thus, I’m somebody’s ‘nobody’.”
What is special is Hardy’s angelic soprano voice, it’s filled with warmth and offers a dalliance between the lyrics and her emotive voice. Her voice is warmly endowed on the highest notes, while her chest voice is eloquently pleasing. Her rhythm is impeccably delivered. “Nobody” will certainly introduce you to Karen Hardy, a true somebody.
