Colyn : Concepts of Love Review, two hypnotic mini-suites

colyn-cdColyn is known for his melodic-techno, and he is now making his RĂœFĂœS DU SOL’s imprint Rose Avenue debut with his EP Concepts of Love. This comes after a long track record of creating his melodic-techno sounds with the highest quality of production. Colyn’s dedication to his skills is far beyond his years, and he has continued to grow since starting to produce nine years ago. His Resolve EP received support from Tale of Us, Solomun, Adriatique, Damian Lazarus, Stephan Bodzin, Artbat, Patrice Bäumel, Fideles, Konstantin Sibold, Kevin de Vries, Jennifer Cardini, Marcus Worgull, Marino Canal, and many others.

“Running” is anchored by a steady pulse that is treated with Colyn’s trademark layered textures. His brother Maurits Colijn joins him on the track. Colyn says, “This is a very special release to me as it features a long-desired collaboration with my brother Maurits.” Together they create a melodic hypnotic sound that is captivating. The playing with tempos and tension and release is the highlight. The emotion is on of love, but one of losing it. The song’s evolution of the course of almost eight minutes is more like a mini-suite than a single track. Colyn’s control of space and time is stirring.

“Concepts of Love” build on the emotion of euphoria in newfound love. Starting with a energetic pulse to set the layering stage, Colyn works his magic for another eight minute track. The energy is never lost as sounds float in and out, the many layers building a tapestry of dance sounds. The melodic nature of each part makes “Concepts of Love” easy to follow consciously or to lose control to and let the music take control. Colyn’s treatment of the last beat of each measure is an evolving adventure throughout the entire piece.

Colyn’s Rose Avenue Records debut of Concepts of Love is a journey through textures and full sounds that develop around the theme of love gained and lost. Both tracks provide eight minutes of euphoric grooves, but for more instant gratification, the EP also contains shorter edits of both tracks. Both are just as infectious. Colyn’s awes with his command of melodic-techno.

About The Author
Shannon Smith
A fan of music my entire life. Should that be enough, well it is for me. Who buys music, the fans. Who listens to music, the fans. Like me, there are many like-minded individuals that daily search for meaningful and new music to add to their playlist, their soundtrack of life. A life without music would Bb. Yes, I have seen that saying floating around for years, and truth is, its #truth. So, may I introduce you to Shannon Smith (me). I am the editor. A music junkie that can’t get enough music in my life. A nerd (proudly), with some mad love for technology and design. It is that desire that sparked Sound in Review. Life is busy, the reviews are meant to ultimately introduce and briefly talk about the music. We have a section called SIR Quote: this is my way of saying thank you, to the countless artists making the world a place of expression. Show yours by rating each artists album, just as we have (collectively as writers), to show your support for your favorite artist.
