Madison Beer : Selfish, the 2nd Passionate Single
Madison Beer is starting 2020 at the helm of a new chapter in her musical career. At the end of last year, Beer signed with Epic Records after achieving unprecedented success as an independent artist with her partner First Access Entertainment. She is the first independent female solo artist to break into the Top 20 radio charts, after having debuted in the Top 5 on iTunes in 18 countries and in the Top 10 in 42 countries worldwide. Globally, Beer has over 1 billion streams across her catalog. Beer maintains complete creative control through writing her own songs, producing, and creating her own visuals. Still, now she has the vast resources of Sony and First Access Entertainment to take her creativity to a new level. The lead track from the album, “Good In Goodbye,” was co-written and co-produced by Beer. The song also premieres with a video directed by Beer herself, further solidifying her as an embodiment of the “Girl Boss” generation. Beer released the second single from the album of Valentine’s Day called “Selfish.”
“Selfish” was co-written by Beer and produced by frequent collaborator Leroy Clampitt, who also worked with her on As She Pleases. Beer provides insight into the meaning of “Selfish.” Beer says, “I wanted to give my fans more of a taste of what’s to come from my upcoming album Life Support, and with “Selfish” being my most personal and intimate song yet it felt like Valentine’s Day was the perfect time to share it.” The intimate mood is set by acoustic guitar, strings, and piano, with Beer’s warm sensual voice taking the lead in our journey through the personal lyrics. The ascending melody builds to a falsetto climax and is a testament that there is immense talent that accompanies her beauty. The mid-way point marks the entrance of the bass and builds the energy to an emotional bridge. The song is recorded and produced beautifully. The accompanying video is just as moving as the music, making “Selfish” twice as good.
Beer’s work ethic and talent are paying off with her new Sony Music Entertainment signing. She deserves the chance, and her singing is as strong as ever. In the age of the “Girl Boss” generation, Beer is commanding a presence that cannot be ignored, both sonically and visually.
